Journey to Bangkok

I departed CLT on time and had a quick flight to Detroit.  This gave me plenty of time to walk about ¾ of a mile to my departure gate, which was on the same terminal.  The flight to Tokyo took us over Canada and Alaska.  Through the window on the back of the plane, I was able to photograph some of the desolate tundra of this area.  A young Japanese man and I discussed whether or not the mountain in the photos was Mt. McKinley.

This flight was punctuated with bad movies and was a little over 12 hours.  I spent about an hour or so in Japan.  Nothing much to see, just an airport and Americans marveling at beer purchased from a vending machine.  Just before boarding the plane, I met up with Judy who is also attending the field school and she sat in the row behind me on the plane.  This flight, a little over five hours, took us over the South China Sea to Bangkok.  Immigration and customs were a breeze and we met Bill Wormsley, our faculty director, in the arrivals hall.  He took us to VP Tower where I unpacked and got some much needed rest.  This is my room and the view of the skyline from my balcony.
